PRP for Skin Q & A

What is PRP for skin?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a versatile fluid made from a sample of your blood. Rich with growth factors, it aids in the healing process in various ways according to how you use it. This includes treatments for the skin.

You can use PRP for your skin by adding it to a microneedling treatment at Integrated Spine & Pain Care. You can also get PRP injections for your skin. If you opt for microneedling, the PRP enters your skin through the tiny channels where it boosts the healing process already at play.

As your skin heals from microneedling, new cells replace the old, and defects such as scars improve their healing. If you want to enjoy brighter and smoother skin indefinitely, you can get regular PRP skin treatments at Integrated Spine & Pain Care.

Where does the PRP for my skin come from?

The platelet-rich plasma in your treatment comes from your own blood and not from a donor. It contains both platelets and plasma, which is the liquid base of your blood. Dr. Mikael obtains it by collecting a sample of blood from one of your veins and placing it in a spinning device called a centrifuge.

The force of the centrifuge causes the various cells and other components in your blood to separate by density into layers. One of the resulting layers primarily contains platelets and no longer has any red or white blood cells in it. This is the PRP you’ll use for your skin treatment.

What are the results of using PRP for skin?

PRP treatments for skin result in many improvements in your complexion, tone, and texture. While microneedling by itself does a great job of boosting collagen and elastin and stimulating healing on the surface, adding PRP to your treatment only makes these improvements more striking.

You can use PRP for skin to minimize:

  • Large pores
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Dark spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Scars (including acne scars)
  • Hollowed areas, like under your eyes
  • Dullness
  • Dryness

Overall, your skin looks brighter and feels smoother than before once it has some time to heal from PRP treatments. The entire procedure takes roughly an hour, and you may need two or three treatments to see optimal results.
