Microneedling

More collagen and a higher rate of cell turnover mean fewer scars, marks, and wrinkles on your skin. These are the results of microneedling, a procedure you can get from Hasib Mikael Sarij, MD, at Integrated Spine & Pain Care in Farmington, New York. To learn more about microneedling and how it boosts skin brightness, softness, and clarity, call Integrated Spine & Pain Care or schedule a consultation online today.

Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that boosts the growth of collagen and elastin in your skin. It also stimulates the healing process by increasing cell turnover, which means more healing for old and new scars and other damages.

During a microneedling procedure at Integrated Spine & Pain Care, Dr. Sarij uses a roller or handpiece with many fine, evenly-spaced needles on it to create shallow and controlled punctures in your skin. Your skin sees these as injuries it needs to heal.

With so many small channels that the needles leave behind, your skin is temporarily more receptive to any products or nutrients you apply. Dr. Sarij may apply nourishing products to your skin to complete the treatment, or you may have the option of adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to the procedure for increased healing.

How does microneedling improve my skin?

Microneedling results in numerous improvements for your complexion. Along with making your skin generally brighter and smoother, microneedling treatments can lead to fewer:

  • Scars (including acne scars)
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Stretch marks
  • Dark spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Large pores

You might need several microneedling sessions to see your desired results. After that, you can get touch-up treatments every so often to maintain your softer, brighter, and more even-toned skin.

How should I care for my skin after microneedling?

Recovery time after microneedling is minimal and you probably won’t need any downtime. In fact, you can go right back to school or work when you’re finished. However, you should avoid wearing makeup until your skin has healed completely from the procedure.

You should be extra gentle on your skin as it heals after microneedling, and continue to take the steps you usually take to protect and care for your skin. You should:

  • Apply sunscreen before going outside
  • Wait one week to use any harsh chemicals on your skin
  • Wait one week to spend time in the direct sunlight
  • Avoid situations that make you sweat as your skin heals
  • Stay hydrated
  • Apply an antioxidant serum
  • Use a cooling mask to soothe any irritation

Dr. Sarij answers all of your questions ahead of the procedure so you know what to expect and how to optimize your skin’s healing.
