Sexual dysfunction is a common problem among men and women. This can be caused by a variety of conditions such as heart disease, hormone imbalances, anxiety, depression or past trauma. The four different categories of sexual dysfunction include desire disorders, arousal disorders, orgasm disorders, and pain disorders.
What causes sexual dysfunction?
Sexual dysfunction could be caused due to a number of reasons. Physical causes of sexual dysfunction include urological infections or cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hormonal imbalances, alcoholism, drug abuse, neurological disorders and more. Some psychological causes include concerns about sexual performance, feeling of guilt about sexual desire, relationship problems, depression, stress, self esteem, body image issues, and past sexual trauma. Additionally medications including antidepressants and hypertension medications can cause problems with sexual functioning as well as alcohol and recreational drug usage.
